Adelaide, like most Australian cities, has a wide cultural diversity in its cuisine, and alfresco dining is the preferred way to enjoy a meal. The following are a few ideas as to places and streets in Adelaide, that are worth-while visiting for somewhere to have a bite and a drink.
Restaurants and Cafes
Gouger Street and Central Market have a variety of restaurants, reasonably priced to choose from. Chinatown is situated at the west end of the market for an asian culinary experience.
The eastern end of Rundle Street is also great for alfresco cafe's, and unique craft and designer clothing shops.
O’Connell Street and Melbourne Street in North Adelaide have cafes, restaurants, bakeries, that are popular for a much needed café latte.
Pubs and Hotels
In Adelaide, a pint is a pint but a half is called a pot, and a schooner is approximately three-quarter the size of a pint.
O’Connell Street and Melbourne Streets in North Adelaide are areas worthwhile going for a drink, and also taking in the Victorian architecture.
The Lion Hotel, Melbourne Street, is another drinking spot that is well-known, as are The Austral and Stag Hotel, situated on Rundle Street, East Adelaide.
Shopping
Rundle Mall is Adelaide’s largest shopping area, and has both brand and unique stores to browse in – main entrance is from King William Street.
Markets
Central Market, between Grote and Gouger Streets, is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends.
Rundle Street Market is open every Saturday.
