Places to Visit
Darwin is situated at the end of a peninsula, and is known primarily for two significant events in Australian history - WWII and Japanese air attacks; and Cyclone Tracy, which on Christmas Day in 1974, struck Darwin with devastating force. The following are just a few of the places in Darwin that are of interest to visit.
The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Conacher Street, Fanny Bay, has a section devoted to Cyclone Tracy, as well as other displays including Aboriginal art.
Aquascene, Doctors Gully Road, gives people the opportunity to feed the various marine life at high tide.
George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens, Geranium Street, is approximately a fifteen minute bike ride from the city centre.
Parliament House, Mitchell Street, has free tours to view the interior, and also the Northern Territory Library.
Fannie Bay Gaol Museum, East Point Road, was the main jail from 1883 until 1979.
