Hobart

Regions to Visit in Tasmania

Hobart is Australia's second oldest city, and has well preserved architecture, such as its Georgian buildings in the city centre, and the cottages in Battery Point, which enhances its charm. The following sites are just a few of the places of interest in Hobart.

Salamanca Place is situated on the harbour front, and has wonderful sandstone warehouses that are now used as restaurants, cafes, and arts and crafts. Salamanca Market is held outside the warehouses every Saturday.

By taking Kelly's Steps from Salamanca Place, Battery Point can be reached, perched above the harbour area, and as well as giving a scenic view over the area, it also provides a well preserved maritime village.

Along Macquarie and Davey Streets, there are quite a few National Trust buildings that can be visited, such as Parliament House, the Theatre Royal, and the Town Hall.

Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Macquarie Street.

Maritime Museum of Tasmania, Argyle Street.

Overlooking Hobart is Mt. Wellington, which has amazing views over the city and the Derwent River. The summit is approximately twenty kilometres outside of the city.
