Working in Australia
Australian law requires individuals and organisations to pay taxes. In order to do so, you will need a Tax File Number (TFN) to complete a tax declaration form, which is what your employer will request from you.
Your TFN will be used to complete a tax assessment form at the end of each financial year, which in Australia, ends on the 30th June.
A TFN can be obtained by visiting a Tax Office when you arrive in Australia, or by completing a form online.
If you open a bank account within approximately six weeks of arriving in Australia, you will only need to provide your passport and an address in order to do so. If you do not open a bank account within that time, most banks will request other supporting documents based on a points system.
You can also look into opening a bank account before you arrive in Australia, and the Australia-wide banks listed, offer this service for people moving to Australia (you will need to contact the bank in question to see if this applies to Holiday Makers).
Use the International Currency Converter to find out the value of your currency against the Aussie Dollar.
Australia no longer has a one cent coin or a two cent coin in circulation, however prices can still reflect the existence of these coins. For example, you could buy something priced at $1.97 or $1.99, however what you pay is generally rounded up, which in this case would be $2.
