In Australia, there are certain areas of public life that are governed at a state and territory level, such as ambulance services, and smoking regulations.
Ambulance Service
Each state and territory has its own ambulance service or system, and different interstate agreements/recognition of ambulance membership.
The reason for having specific information regarding this service, is that you might come from a country where having to call for ambulance assistance is part of a national health service. In Australia, and more specifically, in some of its states and territories, if you do not have ambulance cover or membership, a trip in an ambulance can cost a lot of money.
The Northern Territory, however, has St. John’s Ambulance Service providing emergency assistance within its more urban areas, and the Territory Health Services in more remote areas. St. John’s Ambulance Service is a charitable organisation, Australia-wide.
Smoking Regulations
The Northern Territory has legislation banning smoking in most public areas, although sections of licensed premises, and outdoor dining areas may still allow smoking.
