In Australia, there are certain areas of public life that are governed at a state and territory level, such as ambulance services, and smoking regulations.
Ambulance Service
Each state and territory has its own ambulance service, and different interstate agreements/recognition of ambulance membership.
The reason for having specific information regarding this service, is that you might come from a country where having to call for ambulance assistance is part of a national health service. In Australia, and more specifically, in its states and territories, if you do not have ambulance cover or membership, a trip in an ambulance can cost a lot of money.
In Tasmania, the Tasmania Ambulance Service currently provides a free service to residents of Tasmania (excluding residents of other states), however from July 1st, 2008, ambulance user charges will be introduced.
Smoking Regulations
Tasmania prohibits smoking in enclosed and licensed premises and restricts smoking in outdoor areas.
