In Australia, there are certain areas of public life that are governed at a state and territory level, such as ambulance services, and smoking regulations.
Ambulance Service
Each state and territory has its own ambulance service, and different interstate agreements/recognition of ambulance membership.
The reason for having specific information regarding this service, is that you might come from a country where having to call for ambulance assistance is part of a national health service. In Australia, and more specifically, in some of its states and territories, not having ambulance cover or membership could cost a lot of money.
In Victoria the Metropolitan Ambulance Service has a website providing information about the service, membership and fees.
Smoking Regulations
In Victoria, new legislation has been in force from July 2007, further increasing smoke-free areas, including “licensed premises”.
