Car License and Registration

There is no Australian driver’s license as such, but rather each state/territory issues its own driver's license, and if moving from state to state, as well as coming over from another country, you will need to know the rules and regulations of the state you obtain a driver’s license from.

VicRoads is Victoria’s vehicle registration and car licensing authority, and you can find out about getting a driver’s license by using the VicRoads website.

For information regarding car registration (Australian road tax), which is compulsory to drive a car on Australian roads - VicRoads Registration.

For other information regarding road rules, some of which again can differ from state to state, road safety and vehicle standards - VicRoads general information.
