In Australia, there are certain areas of public life that are governed at a state and territory level, such as ambulance services, and smoking regulations.
Ambulance Service
Each state and territory has its own ambulance service, and different interstate agreements/recognition of ambulance membership.
The reason for having specific information regarding this service, is that you might come from a country where having to call for ambulance assistance is part of a national health service. In Australia, and more specifically, in its states and territories, if you do not have ambulance cover or membership, a trip in an ambulance can cost a lot of money.
Western Australia, similar to the Northern Territory, uses St. John’s Ambulance Service (charitable organisation) for emergency assistance.
Smoking Regulations
From 31 July 2006, the Tobacco Products Control Regulations 2006 made under the Tobacco Products Control Act 2006, prohibit smoking in all enclosed public places including those on licensed premises. The only exception to this is the Burswood Casino’s International Room (Tobacco Control Branch, Department of Health, WA).
