Speech Pathology Australia is recognised as the national professional body for speech pathologists in Australia. If you have overseas qualifications and are migrating to Australia, only speech pathologists able to demonstrate they hold or are eligible for current, practicing, membership with Speech Pathology Australia, will meet the skills level for migration purposes.
Speech Pathology Australia has new procedures for assessing overseas trained speech pathologists, that include a Screening Application, a Complete Application, and a Mutual Recognition Agreement Application (MRA). You will also need to provide evidence that you can use English competently in Australian speech pathology practice.
The Mutual Recognition Agreement is a mutual recognition of credentials between Speech Pathology Australia, and –
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) - USA
The Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) - Canada
Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) – United Kingdom
Most employers in Australia would require applicants to at least be eligible for current, practicing membership with Speech Pathology Australia, however in Queensland, it is mandatory to register with the Speech Pathologist Board in order to practice in the state.
Australian Education International (AEI), through the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR), provides official information and advice on the comparability of overseas education qualifications with Australian qualifications. This aims to help overseas qualified people work and study in Australia.
